STATEWIDE PROGRAMS
First Time Homebuyer Program
Assistance Available:
Kansas Housing Resources Corporation manages the Kansas First Time Homebuyer Program which offers residents 15% - 20% of the purchase price in the form of a forgivable soft loan. The actual percentage of assistance is dependent on the borrower’s income.
Qualifications:
You must be a first time homebuyer (have not owned a home in the previous 3 years). You must meet the income requirements. You must make a minimum contribution of 2% of the purchase price.
This program is not available for properties located in Topeka, Wichita, Lawrence, Kansas City, or Johnson County.
Kansas Housing Assistance Program
Assistance Available:
Sedgewick and Shawnee Counties co-sponsor this statewide Housing Assistance Program. The program offers multiple grant options with up to 5% downpayment assistance. There is an unlimited fund for 30 year fixed rate mortgages with the following assistance:
FHA:2%, 3%, and 4% grants
VA:2% grant
USDA/RD:2% grant
Conventional (unassisted - low rate):1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% grants
Qualified borrowers can also get up to $2500 in affordable subsidies on conventional loans.
Qualifications:
Income limits apply. For government loans (FHA, VA, USDA) the limit is 115% of the area median income. A minimum credit score of 660 for FHA loans is required. For VA, USDA-RA, and conventional loans, a 640 is the minimum credit score allowed. Single family homes, townhomes, condominiums, and duplexes where one of the units is owner occupied are eligible. The maximum purchase price is $453,100.
Wyandotte County
Capitol Federal Closing Cost Assistance
Assistance Available:
Community Housing of Wyandotte County offer Capitol Federal Closing Cost Assistancein the form of a maximum grant of $1500.
Qualifications:
You must purchase a property located in a low income census tract. You apply for the program after you have been approved by a lender and have a contract on a home with a tentative closing date. The application process takes approximately 45 days.
